Jimmy Fulkerson of Huntingburg rubbed 8-week-old kitten, Bandit, outside the home of his neighbor, Tina Dearing, on Saturday in Huntingburg. The neighbor experienced flooding after Friday night's storm that carried into Saturday. "It looked like a raging river," Fulkerson's wife, Peggy, said when she looked at the street outside their home.

Jasper boys golf coach Steve Milligan, who talked to Evan Wolfe before he teed off during a match last week, is reveling in his return to the course this season. Milligan stepped away from coaching last spring while undergoing treatment for a form of brain cancer that also inhibited his ability to walk. With the cancer in remission and his energy restored, Milligan is back for his 12th season coaching the boys program.
Todd Lau of Huntingburg and his son, Michael, 10, biked over to check on his cousin Kristy Lawrence and her daughter, Kristyn, 16, after storms flooded many of the homes in the Huntingburg neighborhood Saturday. Kristyn recently received her license and bought a car which experienced extreme water damage from the storm. She said that the interior of the car was covered in mud, but the only thing that was not damaged was a box of things from her recently deceased friend, Lexi Mattingly.
Sister Geneva Stumler, 84, drove fellow sisters Helen Maurer, 95, Theresita Schenk, 96, Dolorita Libs, 96, and Mary Claude, 86, to watch the demolition of Madonna Hall on Tuesday morning on the grounds of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand. The five-story residence hall was built in 1968 and home to the Sisters of St. Benedict’s Marian Heights Academy, which closed in 2000. The Sisters explored a multitude of alternative options such as turning Madonna Hall into a nursing home or letting Ivy Tech’s network of community colleges repurpose the hall for its own use. None of those options reached fruition. The Sisters of St. Benedict will celebrate their 150th anniversary this summer.
Coaches hope the newly-formed Unified Track team at Southridge High School will support inclusiveness and community at the school. Sophomore Corbin Neher, center, led the school's the team in stretches during Tuesday’s practice. The Unified Track team allows students with special needs to be assisted by student athletes twice a week in their training and while competing in events.
Jasper volunteer firefighter Nick Nowakowski observed where water flooded Indiana State Road 162 just south of Jasper on Saturday. The fire department closed down the road and redirected traffic after rescuing three stranded vehicles earlier that morning.
